Recaro and Ford have a very long-running relationship that spans the last 40 years. Recaro performance seats have been found in several Ford vehicles, most notably in Mustangs old and current. Recaro is on hand at SEMA 2019, and it has announced a pair of new seats that are aimed at the off-road vehicle market. The seats include the Recaro Cross Sportster ORV and the Pro Racer SPG XL ORV.
Ford says that it worked with off-road racer and drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. and off-road racer Loren Healy to design the seats. The Recaro Cross Sportster ORV is designed to meet the needs of the off-road market. The seat is designed to be snug and to have supportive seat structure and side bolsters. The seat is also designed for shoulder and torso support and to stabilize the body against lateral forces.
The seat uses “highly-effective” vibration-damping foam and robust cover material that makes it suitable for the demands of off-road racing and use. It hs a flat seat cushion with low side bolsters for each access. Other features include an integrated headrest, backrest adjustment, and release, and integrated slidemount for length adjustment.
The Recaro Pro Racer SPG XL ORV was designed specifically for off-road race car requirements. The seat has been tested for support and protection of the back and neck against the forces of a dirt track. It has friction grip surfaces around the shoulders and energy-absorbing foam. The seat supports 4, 5, and 6-point harnesses and can be used with HANS systems, and the cover is weather and abrasion-resistant. Both seats will debut in 2020, with pricing announced at debut.
