Truck fans have long lamented that Ford never brought the Lightning back into production. The lack of a performance on-road truck offering means that buyers out there who want a fast pickup are left to search the aftermarket for their rides. Roush has a truck in singe cab or four-door configurations called the Nightmare that will fit the bill for some. Another option is the 2019 Saleen Sportruck that looks about as close to a modern F-150 Lightning as we are likely to get.
Saleen will build the truck on four levels of base trucks from the EcoBoost 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter turbo engines to the standard 5.0-liter V8. The full monty that performance enthusiasts will want is the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 version. Saleen says that the truck has an exclusive air management system with a functional air dam, front brake ducting, racing-inspired grille, and a hood with center sculpting.
The rear of the truck gets a big Saleen nameplate on the tailgate and large rear exhaust tips that tuck into the lower rear valance. All of the 2019 Saleen Sportruck models come with standard Racecraft suspension. Buyers who opt for the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 version of the truck will get 700 horsepower. All versions have a Saleen serialized front bumper number along with Saleen VIN stampings.
There are three levels for the truck, including White Label, Yellow Label, and Black Label. All can be had on the regular cab, Super Cab, or Crew Cab F-150 base. The options list is massive, and pricing is a mystery, but it’s Saleen so that it won’t be cheap. The trucks include a Saleen warranty for 3 years/36,000 miles.
