2020 Ford Explorer Gets New Atlas Blue Color: First Look

Ford has launched the next-generation Explorer SUV for the 2020 model year. The all-new Explorer features a new design plus the latest technological innovations. Most notably, the new model switches from a front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive-based configuration (thanks to the CD6 platform), with all-wheel drive remaining optional.

When compared to the last-gen, 2019 model, the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer adds six new exterior colors to its color palette: Star White, Rich Copper, Silver Spruce, Rapid Red, Iconic Silver, and Atlas Blue. Here’s our first look at the new Atlas Blue hue.

Availability

Assigned order code B3, Atlas Blue is one of two blue hues available for the 2020 Explorer, with the other being called Blue. It’s worth noting that both blues are two out of five total metallic colors available.

The new Atlas Blue color is included in the base price of the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer. It is available in conjunction with two out of three interior color combinations and only with the XLT, Limited, and ST trim levels.

2020 Ford Explorer Trim Levels:

  • Base
  • XLT
  • Limited
  • ST
  • Platinum

2020 Ford Explorer Interior Color Combinations:

  • Sandstone
  • Ebony
  • Light Sandstone

Launch Timeframe

As of this writing, the 2020 Ford Explorer is available at the retail level, since the Ford Chicago Assembly plant has been producing the vehicle for the past several months. Models in the Atlas Blue exterior color are already on dealer lots, but availability varies by dealer – so be sure to check with yours for complete details.

Frankie's first favorite car was a 1968 Ford Mustang, and he's had a strong appreciation for the nameplate ever since. Later in his youth he became infatuated with Eleanor, thanks to Nicholas Cage's stellar performance. Frank's a real jokester, too.
