It’s no surprise to learn that Chase Briscoe, NASCAR’s 2019 XFINITY Series Rookie of the Year, will be behind the wheel for the 2020 NASCAR season with Stewart-Haas Racing. The official announcement that Briscoe would be returning as the driver was made last week. 2019 was a big year for Briscoe scoring a win and being in contention for the serious championship down to the second to last race held at Phoenix Raceway.
During the 2019 season, Briscoe was able to drive his No. 98 Ford Mustang to the pole position twice and averaged approximately an eighth-place finish during the season. Chase Briscoe scored 13 top-five and 26 top 10 runs during the season, marking the end of a very successful rookie year. Briscoe says that the 2020 NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be the first time he’s able to run back to back full seasons for the same team.
Briscoe noted that the faith of Stewart-Haas Racing means a lot to him, and he intends to work hard to bring the team and Ford wins and a run for the championship in 2020. The powers that be at Ford Performance are pleased with Briscoe’s performance in the 2019 season and see the young driver as key to their future racing plans. Briscoe is particularly well-suited to Ford’s future NASCAR plans thanks to his road course racing experience in the IMSA series driving a Ford Mustang. Chase Briscoe formerly drove in the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series.
Race teams are always on the lookout for drivers with both oval and road course experience since NASCAR runs on both types of tracks. Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports, said that Briscoe had proven himself so far. Rushbrook said Ford is looking forward to continuing Briscoe’s progression as he fights for an XFINITY series championship in 2020. Recently, Ryan Sparks was named crew chief for the No.32 NASCAR Ford Mustang.
