The sales volume was negatively impacted by low retail availability of the trucks as a result of two factors:

  • The launch of GM’s full-size pickup trucks (Silverado/Sierra) during the first half of the year, which limited availability of more affordable models to later on in the launch cadence, and
  • Issues associated with the 40 day-long UAW strike that impacted production in the final quarter of 2019 (impacting all four trucks)

Ford is expected to introduce an overhauled F-150 in the 2020 calendar year for the 2021 model year. As such, we expect sales of the bread-and-butter F-150 line to decrease around 8 percent during the year as The Blue Oval switches over production. However, sales should begin to pick up once the launch cadence is completed.

Meanwhile, we expect Ford Ranger sales to continue growing during the 2020 calendar year, though the uptick in Ranger deliveries might not be enough to make up for the slump in F-150 sales as a result of the changeover.
