When it comes to Fox-body Mustangs, one of our favorite variants is the Saleen variety. The car seen in the images here is for sale in Texas for $27,995 and it is a very nicely optioned 1988 Saleen Mustang convertible. The car is a genuine Saleen Mustang, not a standard convertible that someone has added a body kit to.
The Saleen-style body kit was a popular addition to many Mustangs back in the day. In 1988 only 137 Saleen Mustang convertibles were made, and this is one of them. The white with blue stripes is the coolest color scheme and this ride has only 50,286 original miles. The seller says that it is one of the most original and unmolested examples they have seen.
The 1988 Saleen Mustang convertible has been well maintained over its life and is apparently all original down to the paint. These cars were very expensive in the day costing about twice as much as a normal Mustang. Saleens were mostly style and handling packages as they don’t include more power in this generation. Some of the later Saleen Mustangs had superchargers.
Inside the car has special Saleen two-tone bucket seats covered in gray vinyl. The steering wheel is a MOMO unit and the car was fitted with a 170-mph speedometer. Standard Fox-body Mustangs of the day only had 85 mph speedometers. The only thing on the car not stock is a Kenwood AM/FM/CD player. While the 5.0-liter V8 is factory stock, the car does get Saleen 4-wheel disc brakes and 5-lug hubs. This Mustang has white Saleen Autosport/American Racing mesh alloy wheels which happen to be one of the best-looking Fox-body wheels out there. The original sticker on the car was $25,000 and the seller is asking $27,995.
