Ford is taking the time to brag a bit on its hot-rodded 2020 Ford Explorer ST. Ford says that the Explorer ST has beat sales expectations comprising more than one in five Explorer retails sales. Ford also notes that the 2020 Ford Explorer ST is attracting trade-ins from luxury brand customers.
For those unfamiliar with the Explorer ST, it is the 400 horsepower version of the popular SUV and is the most powerful Explorer ever made. Explorer ST makes up 21 percent of overall Explorer sales. Nearly 28 percent of non-Ford trade-ins are coming from luxury brands. Ford also says that the ST is helping the model retain its title as the all-time best-selling SUV.
While bragging on the Explorer ST, Ford is also announcing that the XLT Sport Appearance Package will return this summer for the 2021 Explorer. The XLT package will bring Carbonized Gray-painted 20-inch wheels with a matching grille, skid plates, and hood lettering. The XLT package is finished with dual chrome exhaust tips. Inside the XLT, buyers will get unique ActiveX Light Slate two-tone seats with accent stitching. The center console has a matching lid, and the door trim panels match as well.
When the XLT package was offered in the past, one in every four Explorer models sold were fitted with the package. The package also attracts younger SUV buyers, according to Ford. Ford is also celebrating 30 years of the Explorer, and the eight millionth Explorer was sold in January. Ford says that 18 percent of new Explorer buyers are 18 to 35 years old with 46 percent in the 36 to 55 years old segment. Last year, we saw a tuned 2020 Explorer ST make 412 horsepower at the wheels.
