Ford UK Sold Its Former HQ For £40m

For over 50 years, the Ford UK HQ was located at a site in Warley in Brentwood, Essex. The automaker shut the building down in 2018 as it worked to revamp its operations in Europe. The massive building is on a site that spans 21 acres, and an announcement has been made that the former Ford HQ has now been sold for £40m.

Ford’s old building was sold to Fairview New Homes, who will use the 21-acre site for residential development. Fairview said that it was excited to build new homes on the “locally-significant” site. The new home builder says that it will work closely with the Brentwood Borough council to make sure the private and affordable homes are complementary to the local residential area.

The land will be used to build 150 new homes. The former Ford UK HQ building itself will be sub-sold to Land Charter Homes that will turn the building into 266 flats. The local government is keen to get new homes built in the area, having set a goal to build nearly 8,000 homes between 2016 and 2033 in Brentwood.

The Ford site is considered an “iconic local landmark,” and the homes are seen as the start of regeneration for the wider area. Ford UK is currently operating from sites it owns in Dunton, Essex, and Daventry Northamptonshire. Ford’s biggest project of this sort was the sale of a former plant location in St. Paul that will be converted into 40 new city blocks. That location will have new apartments, retail spaces, and lots more. The project received massive tax diversion from the local government to help with construction costs.
