Lincoln is talking about the color blue, which is key to some of its design themes used for its luxury vehicles. One of the colors that Lincoln is bragging about is called Flight Blue and is the signature color featured on the new Aviator and Corsair. Lincoln says that the Flight Blue color is inspired by aviation and represents the idea of flight and freedom.
The maker also notes that blue is traditionally associated with serenity, tranquility, and peacefulness, pointing out that PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is being celebrated as the Pantone Color of the Year 2020. Blue is very popular for the Lincoln brand, with about 10 percent of its sales last year being vehicles in the blue spectrum.
Lincoln says that for 2020 there are five exterior shades of blue available ranging from a very light, silver-tented Chroma Crystal Blue to a slightly deeper Blue Diamond. Flight Blue is an overlaying blue-gray tone according to Lincoln, and then it’s color palette moves into truer blues such as Artisan Blue and Rhapsody Blue.
Susan Lampinen is the Lincoln group chief designer, colors, and materials, and she says that each shade of blue is meant to represent a specific emotion or element of nature. Chroma Crystal represents light and water. Blue Diamond is meant to represent confidence and trust. Flight Blue represents flying and freedom, while Artisan Blue represents crafted and galaxy. The last of the blues is the Rhapsody color meant to represent nighttime, peaceful, and quiet.
The Flight Blue color is the signature color of the Lincoln Aviator, which was inspired by the flowing lines of an aerofoil design and complements the contours of the Aviator. Lincoln also offers two interior shades of blue for its vehicles and says the color is key to its calm, soothing sanctuary theme for Lincoln vehicles. The Aviator recently won the MAMA Luxury Family Vehicle of the Year award.
