Fans of McLaren sports cars may not know the name Mark Roberts, but he was instrumental in some of the legendary cars that McLaren has built, including the F1, P1, Senna, Speedtail, and the Elva. It would seem that high-performance cars are in the DNA of Mark Roberts. Despite having begun work at McLaren as employee number nine, Roberts has left the company and moved to Charge Cars.
We talked about Charge Cars before; it’s the company that makes classic Ford Mustangs that have electric power under the hood. The new position Mark Roberts is filling for Charge Cars is Chief Creative Officer. Roberts says that Charge has “something really special,” noting that he felt it as soon as he walked through the door.
He says that the feel at the company reminds him of when he first started with McLaren. Roberts also notes that he’s always had a “real passion” for classic cars, and after years of working with cutting-edge technology on supercars, he is looking forward to taking an iconic classic like the Mustang and cramming new technology inside. He says that he is looking forward to working on electric cars with real soul to give people a way to show their personality and still be mindful of their carbon footprint.
Charge Cars has partnered with a company called Arrival to fit classic vehicles with new electrical systems, including batteries and motors, and user interfaces to turn the classic vehicles into green electric autos. The Mustang the company is working on promises a 200-mile driving range, and those interested can reserve one now for £300,000. We wager the Ford Mustang isn’t the last iconic muscle car Charge Cars sticks an electric powertrain into.

I hope they’re using new bodies and not ruining real Mustangs. If they are buying real Mustangs and butchering them, it’s pretty screwed up.
