Hennessey Venom 775 Pickup Races A Shelby GT350: Video

The gang over at Hennessey Performance unveiled a very cool pickup not long ago called the Hennessey Venom 775. The number in the name of the truck is in ode to the amount of horsepower its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine makes. They also mentioned when the truck was unveiled that it would be sold exclusively through Brown Lee Ford, and only 100 would be built. We wondered at the time exactly how fast the Hennessey Venom 775 would be.

Hennessey still hasn’t offered up any quarter-mile times for the truck, but it has posted a video of the Venom 775 racing against a stock Shelby GT350. Considering how much power the pickup has and the fact that it doesn’t spin at all on a very hard launch leads us to assume it’s launching in four-wheel-drive mode.

The Shelby GT350 has not one little bit of a chance in either of the drag races against the Venom 775. It’s impressive to see a lifted truck on massive off-road wheels and tires launch as hard as the Venom 775 does. We will say that the driver of the Shelby appears to be having a hard time hitting shifts and launching the car.

We don’t think if the Shelby launched perfectly and hit all of its shifts, it would still be able to keep up with that pickup in the quarter-mile. There’s more to the Venom 775 than a big V-8 with a 2.9-liter supercharger bolted on top. It’s got off-road tires, custom bumpers, a ram air hood, and upgraded Brembo brakes. The truck is also lifted by six-inches and is slightly understated by Hennessey standards. We still don’t know how much the truck costs, but we’re expecting a six-figure price tag.

I’d rather put a supercharger on the GT350
