Competitive Sales Comparison

Lincoln MKZ sales during the fourth quarter of 2019 leaves the midsize premium sedan in second place in its competitive set, behind the Lexus ES and ahead of its cross-town rival, the Buick LaCrosse (see Buick LaCrosse sales), which has already been discontinued.

In addition, Lincoln MKZ sales fell slightly more than the segment average during the quarter. Despite that, the MKZ saw its segment share remain at 23 percent.

The Ford Authority Take

We attribute the continuously disappointing Lincoln MKZ sales results to the ongoing change in consumer dynamics, wherein customers continue to favor crossover utility vehicles (CUVs/SUVs) over sedans. Going forward, we expect MKZ deliveries to continue at their current, depressed pace so long as the crossover craze continues, until the model is fully phased out.

Meanwhile, there is a potential for an uptick in future sales performance once the Buick LaCrosse is discontinued, but we don’t imagine it being long-lasting. It’s worth mentioning that Lexus is continuing to defy all odds and market trends, and has managed to boost sales of the ES, which was all-new for the 2019 model year.

Frankie's first favorite car was a 1968 Ford Mustang, and he's had a strong appreciation for the nameplate ever since. Later in his youth he became infatuated with Eleanor, thanks to Nicholas Cage's stellar performance. Frank's a real jokester, too.

I agree with Ford Owner if import car makers can sale sedans so can the American counter parts the Ford Fusion & Lincoln MKZ which should have already been re named Zephyr are good cars. I think the MKZ aka Zephyr biggest problem it share the same front end as the Continental which is a mistake, the MKZ aka Zephyr is a very unique automobile it should share the grill but have its on face and name. Are you listening Lincoln? Lincoln is a luxury car dealership it’s on reason why it can’t sell both cars and suvs

I think naming the car Zephyr would be a mistake. There’s something about it that recalls the Hindenburg. Not a pretty picture. I’ve had 2 MKZs (2012, 2014), a Fusion (2017), and am now back to the MKZ. All have been great cars. I agree that the front grill needs its own look – something sportier. In a couple of years, I’ll be looking for a custom grill.
