Back at the 2019 SEMA show, we were treated to the world’s first modified 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid from Blood Type Racing. The build is truly a tough-looking and capable package, not just some gussied-up show pony. BTR took a stock 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid and gave it a host of visual upgrades, suspension goodies, and a set of seriously knobby tires, along with some cool tech. Unfortunately, the BTR Explorer didn’t receive the coverage it truly deserved, and Ford Authority is now looking to correct that problem by dedicating an entire gallery of photos, which we snapped at the Chicago Auto Show, to this amazing machine.
The 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid from BTR has received a leveling kit that effectively raises the front end half an inch. It also got a Ford Performance skid plate to protect its undersides.
From there, BTR filled the round wheel wells with 20-inch Ace Alloy wheels wrapped with Open Country A/T II tires that totally transform the way the otherwise tame-looking Explorer, not to mention making it a little more capable off the beaten path.
The white paint was then perfectly accented with a host of black accents throughout the body, including on the door handles, lower door moldings, front grille, rear bumper, and the tips of its performance cat-back exhaust system (the system is by Borla, while the black tips are by Ford).
And since this 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid was built for the adventurous type, it also wears a Ford Accessories Roof Rack crossbar system with a Yakima carrier capable of holding two BTR Edition snowboards from Blank Snowboards.
Of course, the 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid is a family vehicle, and parents need a way to keep the kids entertained on those long road trips. So BTR installed a complete a Ford Accessories Ford play rear-seat entertainment system in the back rows, along with an XBox One X gaming system guaranteed to keep the little ones occupied for hours on end.
Blood Type Racing’s 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid delivers a new take on a highly-successful Explorer model, and it’s a treatment we hope to see much more of in the future. But for now, feast those eyes on these awesome pictures.
