Ford Trademarks ‘Outfitters’ To Use On An Actual Automobile

Ford Motor Company has filed to trademark “Outfitters” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford Authority has discovered.

Filed on June 3rd, 2020 and assigned serial number 88946197, the application lists the following goods and services categories;

  • Motor vehicles, namely, automobiles, pick-up trucks, electric vehicles, sport utility vehicles, off-road vehicles, and their structural parts

The Ford Authority Take

The fact that Ford has trademarked the Outfitters name is not all that noteworthy. What is, however, is the Goods and Services category associated with the filing.

We would have expected this particular trademark to be associated with something related to clothing or apparel, but it would seem that The Blue Oval is planning to use it instead on a future vehicle, either as the actual nameplate or to name a trim level. Which model or models the name is destined for is currently unclear, though we could see the Outfitters name serving as a trim level designation of some sort. “Ford Explorer Outfitters,” for instance, doesn’t sound all too bad, but we honestly can’t get past the fact that the name sounds like it belongs to a clothing or apparel brand, more than anything else.

    Back in the day, you went to an outfitter to get your provisions, maps, gear, and maybe even a guide to help on your expedition/adventure.
