Pretty much every Shelby Mustang ever made has turned out to be a pretty valuable item eventually. That even applies to the last-gen GT500 model, which routinely sells for over its original MSRP, just a few years after the car was released. Turns out, there’s just something magical about that Shelby nameplate that makes collectors want to spend lots of money. And that has Hagerty quite confident that the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is destined for future collectible status, too.
The rag recently named the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 one of six cars to makes its 2020 Hagerty Hot List, which consists of cars that are new now, yet predicted to one day sell for far more than their original MSRPs. The stipulations are rather simple – the model must be available in or around 2020, and it has to have mega investment potential.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 certainly fits that bill thanks to its legendary name and history, along with the fact that it’s the most powerful Mustang ever to roll off a Ford assembly line. Packing a supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 that makes 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque, the car does 0-60 in just 3.3 seconds and the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds.
Those are amazing numbers indeed, but the 2020 GT500 is more than just a straight-line burner. It’s also designed to go around a track equally as well, and the highly popular Track Pack is even quicker in the turns. This is a car that quite literally does everything well, and that’s only going to help its future value.
Plus, Ford is only going to build around 5,000 examples, so the latest GT500 won’t be a common sight on the roads of the future, either. And all of these things add up to a pretty substantial future valuation, which makes the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 a surefire collectible for those willing to store it away and not drive it too much.
