Ford Motor Company Mexico Sales Decrease 45 Percent In August 2020

Ford Motor Company Mexico sales decreased 45 percent to 2,850 units in August 2020 compared to August 2019 results. Sales fell at both FoMoCo brands – the namesake Ford brand, as well as at Lincoln.

Brand & Model Sales

Ford sales decreased 45 percent to 2,787 units:

Ford Bronco Sport sales totaled 5 units
Ford EcoSport sales decreased 35.59 percent to 181 units
Ford Edge sales decreased 86.11 percent to 10 units
Ford Escape sales decreased 76.51 percent to 105 units
Ford Expedition sales decreased 78.67 percent to 16 units
Ford Explorer sales decreased 44.37 percent to 84 units
Ford F-Series sales decreased 35.1 percent to 843 units
Ford Figo sales decreased 64.14 percent to 487 units
Ford Fusion sales decreased 66.67 percent to 17 units
Ford GT sales totaled 0 units
Ford Mustang sales decreased 49.06 percent to 54 units
Ford Police Interceptor Sedan sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
Ford Ranger sales decreased 21.92 percent to 520 units
Ford Transit sales increased 3.1 percent to 465 units

Lincoln sales decreased 49 percent to 63 units:

Lincoln Aviator sales totaled 18 units
Lincoln Continental sales decreased 57.14 percent to 3 units
Lincoln Corsair sales totaled 8 units
Lincoln MKX sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
Lincoln MKZ sales decreased 46.15 percent to 7 units
- The model has been discontinued
Lincoln Nautilus sales decreased 85.71 percent to 4 units
Lincoln Navigator sales decreased 37.84 percent to 23 units

In the first eight months of the 2020 calendar year, Ford Motor Mexico sales decreased 41 percent to 24,028 units.

The Ford Authority Take

Once again, Ford Motor Company Mexico sales posted a significant decline in August. This result represents the automaker’s eighth consecutive sales volume decrease in the Mexican market, where neither of the two FoMoCo brands have shown signs of recovery after the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

An overwhelming majority of Ford Motor Company’s vehicles suffered large declines on a year-over-year basis, with only Ford Transit being in the green. For their part, the F-Series and Ranger pickup trucks became the best-selling models of the month. The circumstance represents the first time that the Ranger midsize pickup outsold the smaller and significantly more affordable Ford Figo.

Surprisingly, all-new Ford Bronco Sport registered its first five registrations in Mexico during August. Production of the rugged crossover will start on October 26^th, 2020 at the Ford Hermosillo plant in Sonora, Mexico. And even though the vehicle has already been announced, it has not yet launched (gone on sale) in any market. Hence, we believe that these five units are attributable to registration of pre-production units for testing and final validation purposes.
