Electric Ford F-150 Prototype Makes Appearance At E-Transit Reveal

Just yesterday, we finally got our first look at the all-new, all-electric Ford Transit, dubbed the E-Transit. And while this was obviously big news, it’s also worth noting that, along with the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, an electric Ford F-150 prototype was also on the scene and wearing some pretty aggressive off-road tires.

We’ve seen the electric Ford F-150 prototype in a number of testing situations recently, including some rigorous off-road sessions through some tough terrain. So perhaps it’s no surprise that the prototype – which is based on the last-gen Ford F-150 and not the all-new 2021 Ford F-150 – would be sporting some aggressive rubber.

While the E-Transit is specifically geared toward commercial customers, the electric Ford F-150 will also prove appealing for those buyers as well. Ford has said that the F-150 EV will be more powerful than any F-150 available today and deliver commercial and personal customers the lowest expected lifetime total cost of operation among Ford F-Series trucks.

As the automaker has noted in the past, electric vehicles require significantly less maintenance than a typical gasoline engine, creating more than a 40 percent savings for its lifetime total cost of operation. Additionally, the all-electric F-150 will feature dual electric motors to deliver more horsepower and torque than any F-150 available today, the fastest acceleration, and the ability to tow heavy trailers.

Ford isn’t quite sure how many people will be buying the electric F-150 when it launches in 2022, however, it recently boosted its production capacity for the new truck by 50 percent, added 200 additional jobs to meet projected demand, and is investing $150 million to build EV motors and transaxles at the Ford Van Dyke Transmission Plant.

The electric F-150 will be produced at the brand new Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, using advanced technology like autonomous sleds to transport the truck between work stations. The new facility will be located right next to the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant, where ICE-powered F-150 models are built. The EV truck’s body and paintwork will still be completed alongside ICE-powered models.

In terms of appearance, the electric F-150 will bear some unique design details compared to the rest of the F-150 lineup, as Ford Authority recently reported, with several different sheetmetal components including the front end and front trunk. It will also feature unique lighting elements, which makes the two models easy to differentiate visually. However, the F-150 EV will still be immediately recognizable as an F-150

We’ll have much more on the all-electric F-150 very soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford F-Series newsFord F-150 news, and continuous Ford news coverage.
