Overlanding and good old fashioned camping are all the rage these days, trends that have only grown more popular in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Those interested in getting out in the woods for a weekend or weeks at a time have plenty of vessels to choose from as well, including everything from high-tech campers to wild doomsday rigs. But personally, we can’t think of a cooler camping rig than this 2013 Ford E-350 Sportsmobile up for grabs at Mecum Auctions.
Though it’s not really important when we’re out in the middle of nowhere for days at a time, we can certainly appreciate the fact that this 2013 Ford E-350 looks awesome. Finished in dark blue paint, the van sits up high thanks to a suspension lift that provides plenty of clearance. Not to mention space for some cool 17-inch wheels wrapped in knobby 33-inch rubber.
The suspension features a host of aftermarket upgrades as well, including Rancho XL 9000 shocks, Betts springs, Warn premium hubs, and Dynatrac Pro Rock 60 front axles. Additional off-road friendly goodies include an Atlas II gear-driven transfer case, Ford Super Duty F-550 rotors, and a 46-gallon fuel tank for those long excursions.
The van has plenty of juice under the hood as well, thanks to its Ford 6.8L V10 powerplant mated to an automatic transmission. But a proper overlander needs amenities, and there are plenty of those, including a pop-up roof for extra headroom and an interior fitted with a sink, microwave, refrigerator, pantry, multiple screens, and a custom stereo system connected via HDMI and Bluetooth. There’s also an outdoor shower, solar power connections, a generator box, winch, and an air compressor.
That’s pretty much everything we’d need for a successful camping trip. And unlike a typical, boring cube, this van will also score us some style points at the local camp site, too.

I added a four wheel drive package to a brand new 76 E250 cargo van, 460, A/T, front and rear air and BIG rubber. But I didn’t raise it like this one. I sold it to the guy who did the ambulance duties at St. Thomas Dragway and he drove it for about fifteen years. FUN vehicle.
