Back in September, we reported that Ford intended to produce and donate 100 million face masks to at-risk communities across the U.S. through 2021. Since then, the automaker is well on its way to meeting that goal, having already donated two million face masks to the state of Ohio and 1.3 million masks in New England.
“The company has committed to distribute 100,000,000 masks throughout the country to communities that are both in need and that are high risk,” Pamela Alexander, Director of Community Development for Ford Motor Company Fund, told Ford Authority in a recent interview. “Obviously, people need these items to help protect them. We’re doing this in partnership with dealers and also in partnership with our nonprofit partners because, as you know, from a community perspective community engagement is something that Ford has been doing forever.”
“We’re doing it regionally and by city so that we can really build energy around and reach as many people as possible,” Alexander said. “So yes, we had one in California which was huge. We had 70 dealers participate and had a donation of 2,000,000 masks just to L.A. unified school district alone, and we had another couple million that went out from California for nonprofit partners so it’s really a massive undertaking. I mean it’s just one example of what we’re doing to make sure these masks are getting out there.”
Ford will continue producing and donating these face masks through its PPE days into next year, and as Alexander pointed out, those interesting in receiving some of these masks are able to reach out and request a PPE day in their area as well.
“We have a portal where nonprofit organizations can go in if they’re not part of any PPE days or are not in one of the cities. We have a portal that can be accessed through fordfund.org. We’re also distributing masks that went to nonprofits reaching out, so we’ve had any number of types of groups to reach out there as well.”
Those interested in finding a list of participating PPE days Ford dealers can find it here. Meanwhile, organizations that would like to be considered for a mask donation can provide their information and make a face mask donation request by heading over here.
We’ll have much more on Ford’s efforts to produce and distribute PPE very soon, so be sure to subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford-related COVID-19 news and non-stop Ford news coverage.
