2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 To Get New Carbon Fiber Handling Package

In any configuration, the newly-revived Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 offers performance junkies a compelling blend of blistering speed and sharp driving dynamics. For those looking to get even more out of the range-topping pony, Ford offers two optional performance-enhancing packages – the Handling Pack or the Carbon Fiber Track Pack. Now, Ford Authority has now learned that the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 will offer a third performance package in the form of the optional new Carbon Fiber Handling Package.

The upcoming Carbon Fiber Handling Package will supplement the Mustang Shelby GT500 lineup by essentially operating as a halfway point between the two aforementioned packages. Most notably, the upcoming bundle will include the 20-inch wheels from the Carbon Fiber Track Pack (albeit in a different finish) as well as the adjustable strut top mounts and gurney flap from the Handling Package.

It’s likely that Ford has determined that this mixture will resonate with buyers who want the weight savings and performance-enhancing capabilities of the carbon fiber wheels but would rather avoid paying an additional $18,500 for them, which is what the Carbon Fiber Track pack currently costs. Though the Carbon Fiber Track Pack includes more than the just wheels, it’s still a lot of money for a single bundle of equipment.

As such, the new Carbon Fiber Handling Package seemingly balances out the value proposition of the Handling Package with the arguably most compelling equipment featured in the Carbon Fiber Track Pack: the wheels. Both of the previously-available packages, including the Carbon Fiber Track Package and the Handling Package will continue being available for the 2021 model year.

The Carbon Fiber Handling Package for the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 will feature slightly different wheels than the ones included in the Carbon Fiber Track Pack. While the overall design is the same, the wheels will be painted, as opposed to featuring exposed carbon fiber. The addition of the new wheels bring the number of standard and available wheels in the S550 GT500 lineup to three.

Pricing for the new package isn’t currently available, but we do know that the Carbon Fiber Track Pack costs $18,500. Since the new Carbon Fiber Handling Package doesn’t include all of the features of the Carbon Fiber Track pack, it’s probably safe to conclude that the upcoming package will come in at a lower price.

In any event, every 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 will be powered by the supercharged Ford 5.2L Predator V8 engine rated at 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That potent combo has prompted some dealers to tack on some additional “added market value” onto the MSRP, although that trend will hopefully come to an end as launch-related hype dies down.
