2021 Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Handling Package Costs $10K: Exclusive

As first reported by Ford Authority, the 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is gaining an alluring new equipment bundle in the form of the Carbon Fiber Handling Package. The new package will join the existing Handling Package and Carbon Fiber Track Pack to offer a sort of middle ground for buyers who want to outfit their range-topping pony with some extra performance goodies. Now, Ford Authority has exclusively learned that the new package will cost $10,000, should customers opt for it.

In the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500, the Carbon Fiber Handling Package will be positioned between the carryover packages in price and content. The Handling Package, which is a $1,500 option on the 2020 GT500, is chump change compared to the $10,000 Ford will charge for the new Carbon Fiber Handling Package. The Carbon Fiber Track Pack, which retails for $18,500, is even pricier, though each of the three packages have their own merits.

  1. Package is not available for military sales.
  2. Heated, cooled, and memory functions not available with Recaro leather-trimmed seats.
  3. Not available with Carbon Fiber Track Pack or for military sales.
  4. New for 2021; not available with Carbon Fiber Track Pack, Handling Package, or military sales.

Unsurprisingly, the more expensive packages contain more equipment. For the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 lineup, the new Carbon Fiber Handling Package seemingly balances out the value proposition of the Handling Package with the arguably most compelling equipment featured in the Carbon Fiber Track Pack: the wheels.

The 20-inch painted carbon fiber wheels that Ford is set to include on units of the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 equipped with the Carbon Fiber Handling Package will almost certainly cost far more than $10k when not purchased in conjunction with the vehicle. Ford already includes an unpainted variant of the wheels on the Carbon Fiber Track Pack, and as Ford Authority previously reported, those wheels cost a staggering $25,431.64 to replace. And since the wheels are painted, it’s possible that doing so would only increase their price.

In any event, given the cost of the carbon fiber wheels, both packages represent an incredible value for anyone in the market for a new Shelby GT500. There’s just one downside: when paired with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the range-topping pony is actually slower on the drag strip than base models outfitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber. Either way, that’s a small price to pay for the carbon fiber wheels, and we suspect many owners will swap out the tires for something else.

Regardless, every 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 will continue being powered by the supercharged Ford 5.2L Predator V8 engine rated at 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. That powerplant is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The reintroduction of the historic GT500 prompted some Ford dealers to get quite aspirational with their asking prices, but we have a feeling that subsequent model years will help cool things down on that front.

  1. no the reason they are painted is because they dont have to lay the carbon beautifully and time consuming as they do with the exposed. they had so many rejections in quality like 25 percent on the exposed because the lay wasnt right so they have saved huge by painting
