2021 Ford Bronco Sport deliveries are underway right now, and we’ve already begun to see FoMoCo’s new crossover popping up on the roads. The Bronco Sport’s rugged styling plays into one of the hottest trends in the automotive world at the moment – outdoorsy-focused vehicles – which should make it a hit in the showrooms moving forward. But as we’ve covered many times in the past, the Ford Bronco Sport actually shares the Ford C2 platform with the Ford Escape.

However, take a look at these two vehicles side-by-side, and it’s immediately evident that they’re quite different. The Ford Bronco Sport is boxier and more aggressive in nature compared to the more car-like, softer, round styling of the Escape. The Bronco Sport also has a 1.6-inch shorter wheelbase and more ground clearance, and the differences continue when we take a look at the exterior dimensions of both.
Exterior Dimensions | Escape | Bronco Sport Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks | Bronco Sport Badlands, First Edition |
---|---|---|---|
Wheelbase | 106.7 | 105.1 | 105.1 |
Length | 180.5 | 172.7 | 172.7 |
Width* | 85.6 | 82.2 | 82.2 |
Vehicle Height | 68.6 | 70.2 (Base/Big Bend); 70.3 (Outer Banks) | 74.4 |
Front Track | 62.4 | 63.4 | 63.4 |
Rear Track | 61.8 | 62.8 | 62.8 |
*With mirrors |
The Escape is a full 7.8 inches longer than the Bronco Sport, as well as 3.4 inches wider (including the side mirrors). However, the Bronco Sport is bigger where it counts, for off-road fans, at least. The rugged crossover is 1.6 inches taller than the Escape in Base and Big Bend trims, 1.7 inches taller in Outer Banks trim, and 5.8 inches taller in Badlands and First Edition trims, thanks to their larger tires. Both the Bronco Sport’s front and rear tracks are also wider by an even inch.

While many have focused on the fact that the Bronco Sport and Escape share a platform, it’s pretty clear that these are two very different vehicles designed for two different customers. That much is obvious when looking at the two crossovers side-by-side and comparing not only their styling, but also their size.
We’ll have more detailed comparisons of the Bronco Sport and Escape very soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Bronco Sport news, Ford Escape news, and around-the-clock Ford news coverage.
Comments
The Bronco Sport is what the Escape SHOULD look like now. The current Escape is far too car like these days and sadly lost its SUV looks after the second generation. The first two generations of the Escape will always be the best ones in my book. I will likely purchase a Bronco Sport down the line to replace my current first generation Escape.
Louisville/UAW or Mexico….Hmm, let me think about that one for zero seconds.
Not impressed at all, just checked out new bronco.
I am more interested in knowing about the paint on the pillars especially on any that are blue like the 2017 Escapes!!! The paint peeling on all the blue Escapes 2017-2018 around the windshields! There is even a FB page about it Paint peeling on Ford Escapes! Most of the ones I looked into came out of the Louisville Plant.

First time I’ve had a car payment in over 30 yrs and I buy this then almost a yr later I notice the paint chipping and peeling off. Not a good feeling when I was having doubts about going in debt in the 1st place. Hopefully the car will last me the rest of my life!!
Here are the interior specifications and capacities straight from the Ford webpages for both vehicles. There are similarities as both are built off of the Ford C2 Platform but the differences are there. Please note that the Escape has a sliding 60/40 split rear seat (forward/aft) to accommodate taller rear seat passengers and to also maximize cargo area behind them with upright seats slid forward. The Bronco Sport does not have the sliding rear seats but the cargo is optimized with a taller and more upright boxy shape to make up for the overall shorter length than the Escape sibling. The listed Bronco Sport specifications and capacities is for any model with the 1.5L 3-cylinder engine. Some capacities and specs are slightly less when the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine is used only in the Bronco Sport.
