Last week, we reported that Ford Korea would be adding the 2021 Ford Explorer Platinum to its existing lineup. Now, the automaker’s South Korean division has announced that it is adding a grand total of six new models to its lineup for the 2021 model year, including the Explorer Platinum. Those models are the Ford Ranger Wildtrak, Ford Ranger Raptor, Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator.
“We approach 2021 full of energy, with a strong plan to launch relevant and exciting new vehicles that will ensure the customers get the most from their driving experience,” said David Jeffrey, Ford Korea managing director.
Jeffrey revealed the automaker’s plan in an online media conference, where he also stated that Ford Korea aims to improve its growth in 2021 by focusing on crossovers and SUVs. Jeffrey noted that the South Korean market is “ideally suited” for these models, given its recent increased interest in safe, family-oriented activities.
Jeffrey did not reveal Ford’s sales goals for the year but did say that the automaker intends to at least match its performance from 2020, which saw a 20 percent increase in sales to 10,447 units. Additionally, Ford Korea plans on building four new service centers and renovate a number of existing facilities to improve customer service in the new year.
So far, the Explorer has been Ford’s best-selling vehicle in the region, topping the list of imported SUVs in terms of sales from 2017 to 2019, according to the data from Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association. In 2020, Ford sold 6,126 Explorers – which amounts to a significant 58 percent of its total sales last year.
