2021 Ford Super Duty Introduces New Bed Step: Exclusive

The 2021 Ford Super Duty separates itself from its older counterparts in a few ways, most notably with changes to Adaptive Steering System availability and the deletion of the Windshield Wiper De-Icer from the entire lineup. Fortunately, Ford Authority can now exclusively report on the addition of a very useful and inexpensive feature to the roster: the retractable Bed Step.

2021 Ford Super Duty.

Assigned Ford option code 87B, the optional $375 feature is officially called the Bed Step and it is a standalone option throughout the entire 2021 Ford Super Duty lineup – meaning that it can be equipped on any F-250, F-350, and F-450 and on all trim levels, including XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited models.

The step aims to make access to the bed easier. It can also be removed if needed. Other highlights of the Bed Step include:

  • Slip-resistant step quickly flips down with a nudge of your foot
  • Tucks conveniently out of the way when not in use
  • Supports up to 300 pounds
  • Constructed of heavy-duty, weather-resistant materials
  • No drill installation

2021 Ford Super Duty Bed Step feature can either be optioned on the trucks at the time of order, or installed post-purchase, as indicated by the final bullet point.

The addition of the Bed Step feature allows the 2021 Super Duty to better compete with General Motors, which offers the CornerStep Bumper on all of its trucks. On those pickups, the step is integrated directly into the bumper and is therefore standard on all models. Though it’s non-retractable or removable, but it nonetheless functions similarly to the Bed Step.

    1. Rex I bought this same step for my 2014 F150, Moved it to my 2015 F150, then to my 2018 F150. It uses 2 existing studs from the bumper. Aftermarket it was AMP research and Best Top. I got it from Real Truck.

  5. This has been an available aftermarket item for many years, makes and models readily available and for less $.
I think it’s called a trekstep or bedstep
Not much thought went into this Ford.
Another cost cutting unenginered disappointment to say the least.
I can think of plenty of way cooler options that will solve this completely and blow the competition out of the water once and for all. Ford didn’t start the bed step wars……but this option from Ford doesn’t end it….this is a thoughtless blunder.
Here’s the challenge, Ford engineers what’s up with that?

    1. I bought this same type of step for my last 3 F150’s. Most people can’t get their leg up high enough to use GM’s bumper step on a 4X4. There is no improvement needed on this design it’s fool proof and works well for everyone.

  7. The step seems ok especially with boots on with ice and snow. Maybe they should have integrated like GM but made it bigger…

  8. I had that Bed Step on my last 3 F150’s. It is the best step available. Best because it is very useable. Has anyone here actually tried to use the bumper step on a GM 4X4 ? Well at my age and athletic ability the GM step is useless. It is actually higher up than the step over the hitch. I cannot get my leg anywhere near the GM step to be useful. Because this Bumper step hangs down 8 to 10 inches below the bumper it is accessible for everybody. I don’t care if Ford didn’t invent it. It is so practical. AMP Reasearch and Best Top offer them for every popular truck.
