Ford’s new SYNC 4 operating system made its debut in the 2021 Ford F-150 and is also present in the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, and soon, the 2021 Ford Bronco. As is the case with anything new, there is a slight learning curve to SYNC 4, but those already familiar with previous versions should find it pretty easy to operate, though there are new features to learn including SYNC 4 Information on Demand.
This new video from Ford shows us how to use the basic functions of the SYNC 4 Information on Demand feature. Seen here on the 2021 Ford F-150’s optional 12-inch touchscreen, the new default operating system has two zones – a larger, main area on the left and a smaller, Information on Demand screen on the right.
The main area is used for features including audio (radio, SiriusXM, Bluetooth, and USB), phone (calling and phonebook), navigation (find your way, points of interest), favorites (apps and audio used the most), apps (AppLink), settings (control vehicle settings), and features (truck-specific features plus the digital owner’s manual).
Meanwhile, the SYNC 4 Information on Demand screen shows a second function that the driver can select and control. Functions can be changed by using the up and down arrows at the bottom of the screen, and the card can be dragged over as well if the driver wants to swap it with the main area screen. To display Information on Demand cards in full screen, simply double-tap the card, then press the far-right button to restore the card.
These features are much more convenient in that they allow the driver to utilize multiple features at once, whereas before, they were forced to exit one screen to bring up another, which was a bit of an inconvenience.
