Last summer, Ford Authority reported that Ford Motor Company filed to trademark “Outfitters” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the goods and services category. Now, we know what Outfitters is – a series of dealer-installed, bundled roof packages for the 2021 Ford Explorer and Ford Edge. The 2021 Ford Explorer Outfitters packages consist of three distinctive options – Cargo – Skybox, Cargo – MegaWarrior, and Bike – FrontLoader.
The first 2021 Ford Explorer Outfitters package is the Cargo – Skybox, which includes a Yakima SkyBox 16 carbonite roof box, Ford Accessories crossbars, three-piece floor liners, and a cargo area protector that fits behind the third-row seat.
The Explorer Outfitters Cargo – MegaWarrior package includes a roof-mounted Yakima MegaWarrior cargo basket with a net, Ford Accessories crossbars, three-piece floor liners, and a cargo area protector that goes behind the third-row seat.
Finally, the Explorer Outfitters Bike – FrontLoader package comes with Yakima roof-mounted bike carriers with locks, Ford Accessories crossbars, three-piece floor liners, and a cargo area protector fitted behind the third-row.
The 2021 Ford Explorer Outfitters packages are available on all Explorer trim levels, excluding the Base, which doesn’t offer roof side rails – something that all three packages require. The Outfitters packages cannot be paired with the Twin Panel Moonroof, and only one can be ordered from Ford per vehicle order. Those interested in the new packages should check with their dealer for details.
The Outfitters packages are just the latest in Ford’s push to expand its accessories offerings, and seem like a rationalized way to bundle these components together. Ford first teamed up with Yakima to offer a full line of roof racks and storage solutions for the 2020 Ford Explorer when it launched.
These new packages join over 200 parts and accessories will be available to purchase (or finance with the vehicle) when the 2021 Ford Bronco launches this summer, and Ford also offers five lifestyle accessory bundles for the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport as well.
We’ll have more on the Explorer and all forthcoming Ford accessories soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Explorer news and non-stop Ford news coverage.
