2022 Ford Super Duty Updated With New Tech, Appearance Packages, Colors

Earlier today, we reported that Ford North America Product Communications Manager Mike Levine hinted that we would be treated to some “cool” truck news this morning. Now, it appears that we have, as the automaker has announced that the 2022 Ford Super Duty will receive some new interior and exterior color options, upgraded tech features, and the addition of some new and revised appearance packages.

“Super Duty customers aren’t just working harder these days, they are also working smarter,” said Todd Eckert, Ford Truck Group Marketing manager. “We’re further helping our customers raise their game and get the job done with purposeful technology through the introduction of SYNC 4 with a larger 12-inch screen and 24×7 cloud connectivity for both their truck and mobile devices.”

The all-new, landscape-oriented 12-inch center touch screen, similar to what’s found in the 2021 Ford F-150, comes standard with SYNC 4 on Lariat and above models, with physical controls below for quick access to commonly used functions. Occupants can easily multitask functions by splitting the screen to see navigation, music, truck features, and the new digital owner’s manual.

With twice the computing power of the previous-generation system, SYNC 4 can wirelessly connect smartphones without the USB cord for seamless integration of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility, as well as SYNC AppLink apps.

Customers can interact with the truck using more conversational natural voice control to ask for points of interest or delays along a route. SYNC voice control and a 4.2-inch center screen remain standard on XL series trucks with SYNC 3 available, while an 8-inch center touch screen and SYNC 3 are standard on XLT trimmed 2022 Ford Super Duty pickups.

“These additions build on the major updates we made for 2020 and we keep working hard to bring the best in capability and productivity to assist our hardworking Super Duty customers every day,” Eckert said.

For 2022, Super Duty offers a new Lariat Sport Appearance Package that includes body-color bumpers, exterior mirrors, and grille, as well as a chrome exhaust tip and black platform running boards.

The Black Appearance Package is now being made available for XLT models for 2022. This includes 20-inch Ebony Black-painted premium wheels, body-color front and rear bumpers, grille bars, six-inch Ebony Black running boards, and front and rear black Blue Ovals. The Black Appearance Package will be available in the fall of 2021.

New colors available inside and out include a Baja interior for Lariat, a Navy Pier (like the 2021 Ford Bronco), and Light Slate interior for Limited, and an Atlas Blue exterior color.

The 2022 Ford Super Duty will be available with a variety of standard and optional Co-Pilot360 features. Hill-start assist is standard on all Super Duty trim levels, while Lane-Keeping Alert is available on XL and XLT and standard on higher models. Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking comes standard on XLT and above trims, while available Blind Spot Information System with Trailer Coverage monitors for vehicles in blind spots. Pro-Trailer Backup Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Steering, and a 360-Degree camera are all available as well.

The 2022 Ford Super Duty will continue to be produced at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Ford Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio, and will be available this summer.

  2. I prefer a blackout or sport appearance package. What’s frustrating to me is I plan on purchasing a Super Duty to pull a camper. When I spec that truck with the packages I need, I can’t choose the appearance packages as they all come with 20″ or larger wheels that prevent picking camper/snow plow options.

It would be nice if they offered at least one appearance package with the option to choose an 18″ wheel so I can get the options I want without looking at all of the chrome. I suppose an aftermarket wheel and tire could be an alternative for me.

  4. Is the Black Appearance Package being eliminated from the Lariat? Or, just also available for the XLT?

  5. Almost every vehicle on road today is either black silver white plain blue. I’m getting a 450 Ford limited 2022 but the colors are so plain. Nothing pops or is different than everyone else’s. I’m spending 100 k and can’t pick a great color. This has made me start looking at other makers. This is very important to me.
