U.S. Ford Motor Company Sales Increase 1 Percent In First Quarter 2021

Ford Motor Company sales increased 1 percent to 521,334 units during the first quarter of 2021 in the United States. Sales increased at the Ford brand, while decreasing at Lincoln.

“Ford’s retail sales exceeded 2020 and 2019 sales levels. Our customers are really embracing our new electrified vehicle lineup. The all-new fully electric Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid lifted Ford’s overall electrified vehicle sales to a record start in the first quarter with sales up 74 percent over a year ago,” said Vice President, Ford Sales U.S. and Canada, Andrew Frick. “Our all-new Bronco Sport posted record monthly sales in March and helped power Ford Brand SUVs to their best start in 20 years,” he added.

FoMoCo Sales Notes – U.S. Q1 2021

  • Total Ford Motor Company sales during Q1 2021 increased 1 percent to 521,334 units
    • Ford Truck sales increased 5.1 percent to 277,233 units
      • Retail sales increased 27.6 percent
    • Ford utility sales increased 14.3 percent to 216,899 units
      • Retail sales increased 34.4 percent, their best first quarter retail sales increase since 2001
      • Ford brand SUV retail sales up 37 percent – the best start to the year since 2001, on strong new product introductions
        • Combined retail sales of Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E are up 38.3 percent over February
    • Ford car sales fell 56.7 percent to 27,202 units
      • Retail sales fell 38.6 percent
    • Ford retail sales increased 23.1 percent, selling above both 2020 Q1 and 2019 Q1 results
      • Retail truck and SUV sales were up 87,883 units over a year ago, fully offsetting the retail loss of 13,688 units from the discontinuation of cars
      • Combined retail trucks and SUV sales were up 30.8 percent, providing Ford with its best first quarter performance since 2007
  • Ford’s electrified vehicle sales increased 74.1 percent to a new record sales start, with 25,980 vehicles sold
    • First quarter sales of the fully electric Mustang Mach-E totaled 6,614 vehicles, with days-to-turn of just 7 days
    • Ford sold 7,176 F-150 Power Boost Hybrids in the first quarter, with 3,949 sold in the month of March

Brand & Model Sales

Ford sales increased 1.1 percent to 495,924 units:

  • Ford Bronco Sport sales totaled 23,356 units
    • March sales totaled 9,780 units
    • Days to turn on dealer lots is just 13 days
    • Based on preliminary data, Bronco Sport is conquesting over 60 percent of its sales from outside of Ford.
    • The larger, body-on-frame Bronco coming later this year
      • Ford has now converted over 125,000 of its early reservations to orders
  • Ford E-Series sales increased 4.7 percent to 10,573 units
  • Ford EcoSport sales decreased 0.35 percent to 12,878 units
  • Ford Edge sales decreased 25.17 percent to 22,150 units
  • Ford Escape sales decreased 14.81 percent to 40,990 units
    • Retail sales increased 49.9 percent
  • Ford Expedition sales increased 12.5 percent to 22,263 units
  • Ford Explorer sales increased 15.87 percent to 65,244 units
  • Ford F-Series sales increased 9.24 percent to 203,797 units
    • The performance enabled the F-Series to expand its retail share in Q1 by an estimated 3 percentage points to an estimated 24.5 percentage points in retail share, its best start in 15 years
    • Sales of the first all-new F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid totaled 7,176 pickups in Q1, with March providing the truck’s best performance to-date – up 110 percent compared to February. PowerBoost days-to turn on dealer lots was just 14 days
    • Super Duty commercial sales were up 5 percent over first quarter last year
  • Ford Fiesta sales decreased 94.72 percent to 51 units
  • Ford Fusion sales decreased 78.64 percent to 7,889 units
  • Ford GT sales decreased 58.23 percent to 33 units
  • Ford Heavy Trucks sales increased 111.13 percent to 3,623 units
  • Ford Mustang sales decreased 4.4 percent to 17,274 units
    • Sales of GT premium and high-performance Mustang Shelby GT350/GT500 increased 11.9 percent
    • Mustang Mach 1 is now hitting dealer lots
  • Ford Mustang Mach-E sales totaled 6,614 units
    • Mach-E is turning on dealer lots in just 7 days
    • Nearly 70 percent of Mach-E buyers are from competitive brands
  • Ford Ranger sales increased 15.19 percent to 24,166 units
    • Commercial sales of Ranger increased 47 percent
  • Ford Transit sales decreased 25.48 percent to 27,451 units
  • Ford Transit Connect sales increased 0.77 percent to 7,623 units

Lincoln sales decreased 0.6 percent to 25,410 units:

  • Lincoln SUVs had their best retail sales start in 20 years (since 2001)
  • Lincoln Aviator sales increased 7.41 percent to 6,086 units
  • Lincoln Continental sales decreased 50.86 percent to 768 units
  • Lincoln Corsair sales increased 25.47 percent to 7,114 units
    • The results represent a new first quarter sales record
  • Lincoln MKZ sales decreased 64.45 percent to 1,238 units
  • Lincoln Nautilus sales increased 2.42 percent to 5,372 units
    • The refreshed 2021 Lincoln Nautilus has just arrived at dealerships and has begun its first sales at the end of March to further enhance and provide additional momentum to the Lincoln lineup
  • Lincoln Navigator sales increased 26.29 percent to 4,832 units
    • Navigator retail sales increased 26.6 percent
