The Ford Authority Take

The increase in Lincoln Corsair sales during the first quarter of 2021 is welcome news following the complications brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which forced Ford, as well as all other automakers, to idle all vehicle production in the Americas, Europe, China, South America, and most other parts of the world. Production resumed in May for Ford’s North American operations.

The four Lincoln utilities posted their best first quarter deliveries on a retail basis in 20 years (since 2001), with the Corsair contributing substantially to the achievement. Additionally, Corsair sales during Q1 2021 represent a new first quarter sales record.

LINCOLN NAVIGATOR +26.29% 4,832 3,826 21% 19%
TOTAL +14.69% 23,404 20,407

We anticipated Corsair sales to improve once the coronavirus-related issues were resolved due to the following factors:

  1. The Corsair being a better, more modern, and more appealing product than the Lincoln MKC, which it replaced.
  2. Increased consumer interest in and demand for luxury utilities.
  3. A stronger, more attractive Lincoln brand, resulting in higher interest in and demand for the brand’s products.

However, the ongoing microchip shortage is likely to impact Corsair sales in a negative way during the remainder of the year.

Frankie's first favorite car was a 1968 Ford Mustang, and he's had a strong appreciation for the nameplate ever since. Later in his youth he became infatuated with Eleanor, thanks to Nicholas Cage's stellar performance. Frank's a real jokester, too.
