Over the last few months, Ford Authority has captured a number of refreshed 2022 Ford Expedition prototypes out driving around. This includes the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline, a more rugged off-road variant of the full-size SUV that will feature many of the same elements present on the 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline. Now, we have new Expedition Timberline pictures to share that give us a much better, up-close look at the forthcoming variant.
These Expedition Timberline pictures give us a nice look at the model’s unique wheels, which are wrapped with beefy 265/70R18 white-letter Goodyear Wrangler Terrain AT/S tires, as well as its taller ride height when compared to regular Expedition models.
The Expedition TImberline will also feature unique front and rear fascias that improve both approach and departure angles, along with skid plates to protect vital drivetrain components from damage while off-roading. Specially tuned shocks and stabilizer bars, a unique steering calibration, and an exclusive front rebound spring further aid off-road performance in the Explorer Timberline, and will likely be present in the Expedition Timberline, too.
This Expedition Timberline prototype also features red tow hooks, just like the Explorer Timberline, as well as a similar wheel design. The Explorer Timberline comes standard with a Torsen limited-slip differential, LED fog lamps, a blacked-out Blue Oval in the front grille, and pre-wiring for Ford Performance branded auxiliary headlights, along with exterior and interior colors exclusive to the Timberline.
We expect the 2022 Expedition to be powered by Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6, while Ford’s 3.5L PowerBoost V6, which debuted in the 2021 Ford F-150, is expected to be available as an option. Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission will be the only transmission option for both engines. As for the Expedition Timberline, it will join Ford’s soon-to-be growing Timberline family, which will feature additional models in the future.
We’ll have more on the Expedition Timberline soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Expedition news and non-stop Ford news coverage.

I really hope they keep the current look for years to come. I love its boxy handsomeness.
