Red-painted brake calipers have long been a hallmark feature on performance vehicles. Now, they’ll also be offered as an option on the 2022 Ford Expedition, sources familiar with the forthcoming refreshed SUV have told Ford Authority. This will be the very first time red-painted brake calipers have been available on the Ford Expedition, though Brembo brakes with red calipers are already available (along with a variety of performance upgrades, through Chevrolet Performance) on the model’s chief rivals – the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 Chevy Suburban.
These optional red brake calipers are yet another new feature present on the 2022 Ford Expedition, which is receiving a refresh for the new model year consisting of revised styling, an additional hybrid powertrain, and updates to its interior.
As Ford Authority previously reported, that includes updated styling for the front and rear fascias, what appears to be the same 15.5-inch infotainment screen present in the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the addition of a hybrid powertrain, expected to be a version of the 3.5L PowerBoost V6 that debuted in the 2021 Ford F-150, and a new off-road-oriented Expedition Timberline trim. We expect the 2022 Expedition to continue with the Ford 3.5L EcoBoost V6 gasoline motor as its standard powerplant.
The 2022 Ford Expedition will continue to ride on the same Ford T3 platform as the 2021 model, which it shares with the Lincoln Navigator (which is also receiving a refresh), and will continue to be offered in both standard and extended-length, Max configurations. The 2022 Expedition and Navigator will be assembled at the Ford Kentucky Truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky, as is the case with the current 2021 models, and both refreshed SUVs are expected to be revealed soon before launching later this year.
We’ll have much more on the 2022 Expedition soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Expedition news and around-the-clock Ford news coverage.
