FoMoCo continues to tweak its high-performance Focus ST in Europe, and the latest fruit of that effort is this – the brand new Ford Focus ST Edition. The new range-topping model isn’t monumentally different from existing ST models, but it does feature a host of changes that make it the best handling version of The Blue Oval’s hot hatch.
Underneath, the Ford Focus ST Edition features a specially-tuned adjustable coilover suspension, with 12 rebound settings for the dampers and 50 percent stiffer springs. The special setup also lowers the car just a tad – 10 millimeters at both ends – while an additional 20 millimeters of adjustment are available as well.
For those that may not be exactly sure how to optimize these settings, Ford also includes a “bible” with instructions on how to set up the suspension for different conditions, including the perfect settings for navigating the iconic Nürburgring.
The Focus ST Edition also comes equipped with a set of lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels that reduce unsprung weight by 10 percent at each corner and are wrapped with sticky Pirelli tires. On the outside, the ST Edition can be distinguished from other Focus models thanks to Azura Blue paint and a high gloss black upper grille, door-mirror caps, rear roof spoiler, and a black roof.
On the inside, the ST Edition has been fitted with partial-leather Recaro seats with blue stitching, which can also be found on the steering wheel, shift boot, and floor mats.
The Ford Focus ST Edition will be sold exclusively as a five-door hatchback powered by Ford’s 2.3L EcoBoost I-4, which is rated to produce 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The turbo-four is mated to a six-speed manual transmission only.
“The new Focus ST Edition takes the hot hatchback to a new level of handling precision and control,” said Ford Performance manager Stefan Muenzinger. “Not only does it offer increased poise and responsiveness for the enthusiast, but also gives the ability to tailor the feel and handling balance of the car to the customer.”
