Over the past several months, Ford Authority has reported extensively on the forthcoming 2022 Ford Expedition, which has received a mid-cycle refresh ahead of a more comprehensive redesign coming in 2024. Following the recent unveiling of the Expedition’s Ford T3 Platform mate, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator, it was evident that the 2022 Ford Expedition reveal was just around the corner, and now we’re getting our first look at the refreshed SUV.
As expected, the 2022 Ford Expeditions features a few exterior styling tweaks including new standard LED headlights, taillights, and wheel choices, as well as a twin-spar mesh grille and fog lamps with chrome surrounds on the new-for-2022 Expedition Platinum. The full-size SUV also gains a brand new, off-road-focused Timberline edition and Expedition Stealth Edition Performance Package for 2022.
The cabin of the 2022 Expedition has been treated to even more updates, including a standard 12-inch infotainment screen running SYNC 4 or an optional 15.5-inch display – the largest in its class – with SYNC 4A, as well as an available 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster. Also optional is a new 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed Sound System, a Rear Seat Entertainment System, and 360-degree surround sound. 2022 Expedition models come equipped with Ford’s Power-Up software, which enables over-the-air updates for continuous improvement.
The refreshed Expedition comes with a host of driver-assist technologies, including Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving feature, Road Edge Detection, Intersection Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, and an Active Air Dam that helps improve aerodynamics. Meanwhile, Pro Trailer Backup Assist 2.0 improves upon its predecessor by automating the tasks of inputting trailer dimensions and targeting the trailer.
The 2022 Expedition continues to be powered by Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6, and when equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, the SUV can tow up to 9,300 pounds.
The 2022 Ford Expedition will continue to be built at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant and is scheduled to launch in Q1 of 2022.
