The 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline was revealed back in May as an enhanced, off-road-focused version of the popular crossover. It was to be the first of several new Timberline models to come, including the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline, which Ford Authority has reported on extensively over the last several months. Now, following the reveal of the refreshed 2022 Ford Expedition, we’re also getting our first official look at the Ford Expedition Timberline, too.
FoMoCo calls the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline the most capable version of its full-size SUV to date, one that boasts unique styling elements, an enhanced powertrain, and features that give it more off-road capability than ever before.
“Timberline sets a new standard with full-size SUV customers who need more passenger space, great off-road capability, and a basecamp for life’s journeys,” said Mike Kipley, Ford Expedition chief engineer.
On the outside, the Expedition Timberline stands out from the rest of the Expedition lineup thanks to Active Orange accents and a unique front grille, Timberline-exclusive wheels, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler A/T tires, a wider track, and 10.6 inches of ground clearance – which is the best in its class and 0.6 inches higher than the Jeep Wagoneer. The Expedition Timberline’s approach and departure angles have also been improved to further enhance off-road capability.
The Expedition Timberline is powered by Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6 H.O., which in this guise produces a robust 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, giving the SUV a better power-to-weight ratio than the Wagoneer. Backed up by Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, the twin-turbo V6 sends that power to all four wheels via a two-speed transfer case, and all of these bits are protected by underbody shielding borrowed from the Ford F-150 Raptor.
The Timberline also gets the same Trail Turn Assist feature present in the 2021 Ford Bronco, which enables it to tighten the vehicle’s turning radius when the driver encounters hairpin turns out on the trail.
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline will be produced at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant – like all other Expedition models – and is expected to launch in early 2022.
We’ll have more on the 2022 Expedition soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Expedition news and non-stop Ford news coverage.

With a panoramic roof ?? On an off road vehicle are you kidding me, hope here is full steel roof option. Had our fill with failing panoramic roofs will never buy another.
This might have just killed the ZR2. More seats, more towing, stronger engine, likely an even better interior, similar off-road capability and a far better looking design? The Chevy no longer makes any sense.
Does anyone know when the 2022 Ford Expedition 4×4 Ridgeline is going to be able to creat a pkg???? I live in Texas and until it’s released which was supposed to be like now!!! but no one knows, can someone please give a more accurate date😩😩
I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I’ve always been a Ford truck guy, but when I had to give up my Super Crew F-250, I almost cried…until I found my 05 Expedition Limited. Its pushing 200K, and will soon have to be replaced…well I’ve got to milk two more years out of it.
Anyway, I’ve been looking at F-150’s, but now since Ford has introduced the Timberline, that may change my mind. One thing I’d like to find out is will it come with lockers on the front and rear or the option to add them? Also, can one ixnay the moon roofs, or just opt for one?
This cannot be the ultimate anything with NO SELECTABLE LOCKERS!!!! Enough of this crap Ford, put lockers on certain Expeditions or just shut up please….
