To date, Ford Authority spies have captured more than one 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline prototype out driving around on multiple occasions. All of those prototypes have worn at least minimal camo, however, disguising many of the more rugged, off-road-focused SUV’s features. That’s also the case with this new prototype recently spotted by our spies, but this time around, there are a couple of new details worth noting.
The most obvious changes on this 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline prototype are the Timberline logo on the front fascia, as well as LED daytime running lights, which weren’t present on previous prototypes. Otherwise, many of the same tell-tale Timberline features are present and accounted for.
Much like the 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline, the Expedition Timberline features a unique front-end design with rectangular cutouts in place of the wavy pattern spotted on non-Timberline 2022 Expedition prototypes, and the pattern present in the lower grille matches that of the upper grille. The Timberline logo is located in the lower grille, which can be seen in the photo above.
Moving down, we can see a set of orange-red tow hooks – just like the Explorer Timberline – as well as a silver skid plate and improved approach and departure angles when compared to the regular Expedition. The Timberline rolls on a set of unique wheels wrapped with 265/70R18 white-letter Goodyear Wrangler Terrain AT/S tires, which benefit from a taller ride height than regular models.
The Expedition Timberline will also likely come with features similar to those in the Explorer Timberline, which is fitted with specially tuned shocks and stabilizer bars, a unique steering calibration, a front rebound spring, a Torsen limited-slip differential, LED fog lamps, a blacked-out Blue Oval in the front grille, and pre-wiring for Ford Performance branded auxiliary headlights, along with exterior and interior colors exclusive to the Timberline.
While the Expedition joins the Explorer in Ford’s soon-to-be growing Timberline family, the 2022 Ford Expedition will also be receiving a mid-cycle refresh consisting of exterior styling tweaks, a 15.5-inch infotainment screen, interior upgrades borrowed from the Ford F-150, and numerous other tech upgrades ahead of a more thorough redesign in 2024.
We’ll have more on the Expedition Timberline soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Expedition news and around-the-clock Ford news coverage.

FORD did a way better job with the frontend than Lincoln did with the Navigator, I just don’t understand why the taillights have to be so Dan big and oddly shaped
PLEASE BRING BACK THE REAR VENT WINDOWS ON THE EXPEDITIONS…..GREAT FOR AIRFLOW TO THE THIRD SEAT.
are they going to force the stupid green interior on this one?
