As Ford Authority reported yesterday, the 2022 Ford F-150 is gaining a new STX Black Appearance Package that lends a much darker look to The Blue Oval’s perennial best-seller. However, it won’t be the only such package available on the 2022 Ford F-150. Sources familiar with the 2022 F-150 launch have also confirmed to Ford Authority that an XLT Black Appearance Package will be available for the pickup as well.
The XLT Black Appearance Package will be optional on XLT trimmed F-150 SuperCab and SuperCrew pickups equipped with either the 301A Mid or 302A High package. However, it is not available in conjunction with Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and two-wheel drive – only four-wheel drive with that particular powerplant. Unfortunately, no photos of this package are available as of this writing.
The XLT Black Appearance Package includes a host of features including 20-inch gloss black-painted aluminum wheels, black 6-inch angular step bars, black bodyside decals (four-wheel drive and FX4 Off-Road Package-equipped trucks only), black exterior badging, black headlamp bezels (302A only), a matte black “F-150” tailgate decal, dual exhaust with black tips (four-wheel drive and 3.5L EcoBoost models only), and a unique hood and front grille with black accents.
Inside the cabin, the XLT Black Appearance Package adds black interior appliques, leather-trimmed bucket seats with a flow-through console, and a floor shifter (302A only).
The STX and XLT Black Appearance Packages for the 2022 Ford F-150 join the existing Black Appearance Packages for the 2021 Ford Ranger and the 2021 Ford EcoSport SES, as Ford Authority previously reported, along with the Lariat Black Appearance Package for the 2021 Ford Super Duty. The blacked-out look has only grown in popularity in recent years, so these likely won’t be the last such packages available, either.
