2022 Ford Ranger Order Banks Open, Production Starts In December

As Ford Authority reported yesterday, production of the next-generation 2023 Ford Ranger is currently scheduled to begin at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in May of 2023. That model will usher in a comprehensive redesign, but the current-gen Ranger will also bring about a few changes for the 2022 model year. Now, Ford Authority has learned from a source familiar with the Ranger’s production schedule exactly when 2022 Ford Ranger order banks are scheduled to open, as well as when production will begin.

2022 Ford Ranger order banks opened up on September 27th, 2021, while Job 1 production is currently scheduled to begin on December 13th, 2021, at the Michigan Assembly Plant. As Ford Authority has reported over the last several weeks, the 2022 Ranger will be available with a few new features, including one that will appeal to those who were around in the 1990s.

The first, and perhaps most notable, is the 2022 Ford Ranger Splash Package. Resurrecting a name that was last used by the automaker on the 1993-1998 Ranger as a distinctive model within the former compact pickup’s lineup, the Splash Package features a host of exterior and interior updates that give it a unique, throwback look.

On the outside, those updates include black and orange bodyside graphics, orange grille nostrils, unique 18-inch, 12-spoke matte black wheels, and gloss black accents for the grille, rearview mirror caps, bumpers, fender vents, and wheel lip moldings. The Splash Package can also be combined with the FX2 or FX4 packages for those seeking additional off-road capability.

Inside, the Splash Package features unique seats with carbon grain, tuxedo stripes, and orange contrast stitching, which will be finished in leather on Lariat-trimmed Rangers. Lariats also get orange contrast stitching on the dash and armrests, while all Splash Package-equipped pickups gain the same bright-colored stitching on the steering wheel, parking brake boot, and shifter. The 2022 Ford Ranger Splash Package features an MSRP of $1,495 and will be available for XLT and Lariat SuperCrew models only.

The 2022 Ranger Splash Limited Edition builds upon the Splash Package by offering all of those upgrades, plus the addition of unique exterior hues. Every few months throughout the year, Ford will reveal a new Splash Limited Edition pickup, each sporting its own one-of-a-kind color. Only a few hundred of each will be produced in total, beginning with the Snow Edition.

Finally, as Ford Authority reported earlier this week, the 2022 Ranger will also be available with a unique pixelated graphics option, which runs from right behind the fender badge, along the driver and passenger doors, and then begins to break up as it reaches the rear passenger door handle.

We’ll have more on the 2022 Ranger soon, so be sure to subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Ranger news and continuous Ford news coverage.

  2. I saw the order sheets October 8 and the proposed/reported tan interior is not happening. Still black or stone on Lariats. Also gone is exterior Rapid Red and awful Hot Pepper red is offered and they didn’t bring back Tri coat metallic white . I was going to order a 2022 in rapid red and got my dealer to locate a late production run Rapid Red/stone 2021 Lariat 4×4 with trailer tow, chrome, running boards. I traded in a 2019 Ranger Lariat ….Oddly I found these differences: Ford cut back and the rear doors don’t have the touch open (with key fob in your pocket) open feature, the rear headrest don’t have push button fold down, front headrest don’t tilt adjust, the glove box doesn’t have divider panel (and manual came in plastic bag vs 2019 a black cloth pouch with stitched Ford logo) the floor mats are plain black carpet whereas 2019 ones were heavier and stitched with RANGER a down sides (so I kept my 2019 ones), the 2019 emergency brake hard a chrome tip button and 2021 is black (no big deal), in 2019 they put a pencil/pen tray in console but not in 2021.
