As Ford Authority reported early this year, Ford’s South American arm is sourcing its vehicles from other countries after the automaker decided to shut down its manufacturing operations in Brazil back in January following a decade of losses in the region. In Argentina, that includes the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, as Ford Authority reported in February, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1, which launched in May, the 2021 Ford F-150, which launched in June, and the 2022 Ford Maverick, which will launch next year. Now, we can also add the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor to that list, as it has become the latest Blue Oval product to launch in Argentina.
The South American version of the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor is essentially identical to the North American pickup, which means that it’s powered by Ford’s third-generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6, which produces 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The twin-turbocharged powerplant is mated exclusively to Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, which has been upgraded with next-generation controls and is bolted to a torque-on-demand transfer case.
A standard electronic locking rear differential rounds out the drivetrain, though a Torsen front limited-slip differential is available as an option. Both are fitted with 4:10 final drive ratios. Maximum payload increases by 200 pounds, to 1,400 pounds, while maximum towing also increases by 200 pounds, to 8,200 pounds of conventional towing.
The big news surrounding the 2021 F-150 Raptor, however, is its brand new five-link rear suspension with extra-long trailing arms, a Panhard rod, 24-inch coil springs, and Fox Live Valve internal bypass shocks with electronic control technology and position-sensitive damping. The Raptor comes with 35-inch tires as standard equipment, but no word on whether or not customers in Argentina can opt for the optional 37-inch tires available in North America.
The South American F-150 Raptor will be built in America at the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant in Dearborn, Michigan, is available in four exterior colors – Ebony Black, Oxford White, Velocity Blue, and Wolf Gray, and will start out at $104,990 USD when it arrives in showrooms in mid-November.
