For 2021, the Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 – the model that offers the most range in the Mach-E lineup – was only available in a rear-wheel drive configuration. However, Ford Authority has learned from sources familiar with the 2022 Mach-E lineup that the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 will now be available with all-wheel drive as an option, which makes it an intriguing choice for one very good reason.
The addition of optional all-wheel drive makes the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 the cheapest way to get a Mach-E with both Ford’s extended range battery and all-wheel drive. Previously, buyers that wanted both had to “pony” up for the Premium trim in order to get that combination.
In addition to this change, the 2022 Mach-E is set to receive a couple of additional updates. The most notable, as Ford Authority reported yesterday, is an increase in usable battery capacity for both the Standard Range and Extended Range battery, which should translate to a bump in EPA range ratings, although those figures haven’t been released just yet.
In addition to increasing usable battery capacity, Ford is also looking at other ways to improve the Mach-E’s range in the future, including weight reduction, improving battery efficiency, and through over-the-air updates.
In addition to this range increase, the 2022 Mustang Mach-E will also be available with the new Mustang Ice White Edition Appearance Package, as Ford Authority reported in August. Also available on the 2022 Ford Mustang coupe, the package pays homage to the limited-edition 1993 Triple White Fox Body Mustang and adds Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint with Star White mirror caps and wheel lip moldings, an Oxford White pony badge on the front grille and between the taillights, and unique 19-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with Oxford White-painted pockets on the outside.
Inside, the Ice White Edition package adds Light Space Gray seats, center console, and door-panel armrests, a Bright Silver hex-patterned instrument panel, and an Oxford White pony badge on the steering wheel.
We’ll have more on the 2022 Mustang Mach-E soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Mustang Mach-E news and continuous Ford news coverage.
