Last week, Ford Authority reported that the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E was the top searched electric vehicle in most U.S. states based on data provided by a study from FinanceBuzz. However, a Ford Authority analysis of Google Trends data – where FinanceBuzz reportedly sourced its information – revealed that this information is not accurate. In fact, the Tesla Model 3 still reigns supreme as the top searched EV in most U.S. states – not the Mach-E.
FinanceBuzz reported that among 20 different EVs currently on sale in the U.S., the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E was the most searched electric vehicle in 28 states, ranking above the Chevrolet Bolt and Hyundai Kona Electric, each of which topped just four states. The Mini Cooper Electric took third place with three states, while the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Polestar 2 took two states each. Oddly enough, Tesla – the current best-selling EV brand in the world – only managed to win out in two states – the Model 3 in California, and the Model X in Delaware.
However, current Google Trends data shows that the Tesla Model 3 is the top-search vehicle in almost every U.S. state, while the Mach-E tops five states – New Mexico, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Alaska. The Tesla Model X ranks at the top in South Dakota and Wyoming, while the Model 3 beats out all other EVs in every other state.
Ford Authority reached out to FinanceBuzz for clarification on this matter, but the site did not respond to those inquiries regarding its methods of data collection used in the article. A special thank you goes out to Ford Authority reader David and the other commenters who brought this matter to our attention.
We’ll have more on the Mach-E soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Mustang Mach-E news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

I would like more information about Lincolns. Is there a separate site for this Lincoln?
