Back in January, Ford Authority was the first to report that the 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 would be gaining the Carbon Fiber Handling Package, which offered somewhat of a middle ground option between the existing Handling Package and Carbon Fiber Track Pack. Shortly thereafter, Ford Authority exclusively reported that the new package would cost $10,000 and outlined all of its contents. Now, it seems that this package will only be a one-year offering, as sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will not be available with the Carbon Fiber Handling Package.

The Carbon Fiber Handling Package added 20-inch black-painted carbon fiber wheels, adjustable strut top mounts, a catch. can, a Gurney flap, splitter wickers, and a wheel lock kit to the Shelby GT500. The deletion of this package on the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 means that its 20-inch black-painted carbon fiber wheels will no longer be available, as those were exclusive to this package. Buyers can still get 20-inch exposed carbon fiber wheels with the Carbon Fiber Track Pack, which are quite expensive to replace, as one owner found out the hard way.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Ford Mustang lineup is expanding to include a number of new packages, an updated version of the California Special, and a brand new Heritage Edition of the GT500 for the new model year.
We’ll have more on the Mustang soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Mustang news and non-stop Ford news coverage.
