While Ford’s focus remains mostly on crossovers in China these days, the automaker is still launching new passenger cars and pickups in that market. Case in point – the all-new third-generation Ford F-150 Raptor – which is already on sale in places like Argentina – will officially launch in China in Q1 of 2022, the automaker has announced. This move comes amid a quickly growing truck market in China after the country decided to begin easing restrictions on pickups in cities, as Ford Authority reported earlier this month.
The third-generation Ford F-150 Raptor – which launched in the U.S. for the 2021 model year – will be available to pre-order in Q1 of next year exclusively via the “Ford Pickup Community” channel on WeChat and will be sold through a direct-to-customer sales model. The F-150 Raptor is already on sale in 60 countries around the world, including China, where it launched back in 2017. The F-150 has been China’s best-selling imported pickup truck in its class for four consecutive years now.
The Chinese market F-150 Raptor appears to be otherwise identical to the U.S. version, which means that it comes fitted with a brand new five-link rear suspension with extra-long trailing arms, a Panhard rod, 24-inch coil springs, and Fox Live Valve internal bypass shocks with electronic control technology and position-sensitive damping.
The newest F-150 Raptor is powered exclusively by Ford’s third-generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6 that produces 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine breathes through a new three-inch equal-length exhaust system that features a patent-pending built-in X-pipe, a unique trombone loop, and active valves. An electronic locking rear differential is standard, while a Torsen front limited-slip differential is available as an option, though both are fitted with 4:10 final drive ratios.
