2022 Ford Maverick Recalled Over Safety Issue With Damaged Fuel Tank

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2022 Ford Maverick models due to a safety issue with damaged fuel tanks.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the fuel tank may have been damaged by drilled drain holes during the installation of the spray-in bed-liner.

The hazards: a damaged fuel tank may result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Components: fuel tank.

Affected vehicles: select 2022 Ford Maverick models produced at the Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant.

Number of vehicles affected: 5,456

The fix: dealers will inspect and replace the fuel tank as necessary, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on January 28th, 2022. The Ford reference number for this recall is 21C35.

    This explains why my Maverick order showed this kind of bed liner replaced by a drop-in plastic design. They must have stopped this altogether after discovering this problem. Happy I’ll only have to worry about whether my rear seat belts fall into that recall order. 🙄

      I ordered October 12th and all I have is the order confirmation email from Ford sent the same day. Maybe they’ll build ours after they work out these glitches.

    Lol I ordered mine June 16th, and it’s finally here, only to be recalled. It’s got the spray-in bed liner. It’s AWD. It’s beautiful.
    It’s literally right here, I’ve looked at it. I’ve sat in it. But sadly it won’t be ready for another week or more. At least.
