As Ford Authority reported back in September, the base trim 2022 Ford Maverick XL is not available with cruise control, and Ford will not offer dealer-installed cruise control for the new compact pickup, either. However, as is usually the case, the aftermarket has stepped in with a solution, as a company called Rostra Accessories now offers add-on cruise control for 2022 Ford Maverick XL models equipped with Ford’s 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 – the company has not yet completed testing on Hybrid models, though that will reportedly begin soon. Regardless, judging from the instructional video below, installation doesn’t seem terribly difficult.
Rostra’s 250-9661 electronic cruise control system for the 2022 Ford Maverick XL comes with a left-hand mount stalk-style control switch, a custom interface module with vehicle-specific firmware, an accelerator pedal interface t-harness, an OBD-II interface harness, and control switch extension harnesses.
The company estimates that it will take around 1.5 hours to install, a process that begins by measuring to find the right location for the cruise control switch. The lower shroud must then be removed so owners can drill a hole in it for the new switch, and the included wiring must be spliced to the Maverick’s wiring, which requires a little stripping and soldering, but nothing major.
Those that are comfortable with doing these sorts of things will find the cruise control kit installation to be pretty easy, though some will obviously want to seek out a professional to get the job done. Regardless, for those that don’t want to dish out the extra money for an XLT or Lariat that still want cruise control, this seems like a pretty easy way to add it.

Why Ford? Because all they would have to do is reprogram the PCM to add speed control to the existing drive by wire hardware. Ford had done this to drive you up to higher trim levels. I really am having a hard time accepting the direction of this company. I wanted a Maverick until I lifted the bonnet. Knowing the company is intentionally pushing consumers up, up and up. I am looking for a Nissan Frontier at the moment.
Just curious. Won’t the Frontier cost as much or more than an upgraded Maverick?

I had one of those cruise control kits on a 2011 Chevy. Kit is screwy to say the least. Let the speed get down a little and it will command full throttle to get back to speed.
