Much ado was made about FoMoCo’s decision to equip the 2021 Ford Bronco with the 10-speed automatic from the 2021 Ford Explorer, otherwise known as the 10R60, instead of the beefier 10R80 present in the 2021 Ford Ranger – which shares the Ford T6 platform with the Bronco and is built alongside it at the Ford Michigan Assembly plant – as well as the Ford F-150, Ford Mustang, and various other Blue Oval products. However, as Ford Authority reported back in July, the automaker believes that the 10R60 is actually a superior option for the Bronco. Now, Raybestos is developing the same sort of upgraded clutch packs for the Bronco’s automatic gearbox that are already available for the 10R80.
Raybestos is currently developing upgraded GPZ friction clutch plates and steel clutch plates for the 10R60 transmission. The former clutch packs are made from the company’s GPZ friction material, which it says is superior to Ford’s OEM design and is manufactured with a unique blend of high-energy fibers for ultimate stress and high-temperature durability. Raybestos says that its GPZ clutch packs offer a host of benefits, including an enhanced shift feel, the ability to handle high horsepower levels, greater torque capacity, and higher heat resistance, all while maintaining optimal piston travel.
Meanwhile, Raybestos’ steel clutch packs meet or exceed OEM specifications and have a superior surface finish that supplies a greater application area and friction clutch life, better shift performance and clutch durability, less noise and shudder, and extend the life of the transmission.
Either way, these Raybestos clutch packs are ideal for anyone that wants to make their 10R60 transmission last longer, improve its shift quality, or plan to modify their Bronco’s powerplant.
We’ll have more Bronco parts and accessories to share soon, so be sure to subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Bronco news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

If these clutch packs extend the life of the 10R60 then why isn’t Ford installing them in all 10R60 direct from the factory. It seems to me if this will ensure a better product they’d be all for it.
