Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2014-2015 Lincoln MKZ models over a braking system safety issue. This recall also applies to select 2014-2015 Ford Fusion models, as Ford Authority reported earlier today.
The defect: in affected vehicles, exposure to certain environmental conditions, such as high temperatures, high humidity, and salt air can cause the brake pedal bumper to disintegrate and separate from the brake pedal.
The hazards: a separated brake pedal bumper can cause the brake lights to illuminate continuously, causing confusion to other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. On automatic transmission-equipped vehicles, a missing brake pedal bumper can allow the driver to shift the vehicle out of the park position without depressing the brake, allowing the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of injury.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Components: brake pedal bumper.
Affected vehicles: select 2014-2015 Lincoln MKZ models produced at the Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant from October 1st, 2013, through April 6th, 2015.
Number of vehicles affected: 15,046 vehicles.
The fix: dealers will replace the brake pedal bumpers and clutch pedal bumpers, free of charge.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on March 3rd, 2022. The Ford reference number for this recall is 22S02.
