Unlike a fellow member of the Raptor stable, information about the Ford F-150 Raptor R has been hard to find of late. As Ford Authority exclusively reported way back in 2019, the top dog full-size performance truck is slated to get V8 engine. Exactly what powerplant that is remains to be seen, but according to an official document, the internal combustion engine will indeed have eight cylinders.
In all likelihood, the Ford F-150 Raptor R will pack a slightly modified version of the Ford 5.2L “Predator” V8 under its hood. That’s because its output is quite substantial in the only product The Blue Oval has thus far deemed acceptable to host it: the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Underneath that model’s hood, output is rated at a substantial 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. However, given that the engine is several years old at this point and that its mission in the F-150 is to definitively counter the Ram TRX, we suspect the automaker may beef up its output using whatever sorcery is necessary to render the Stellantis product irrelevant. That said, sources have previously told us that the truck will pack about 750 horses under its hood, so that could very well remain the case when its official specs are revealed some time later on this year.
While no official information about the F-150 Raptor R is available other than its cylinder count, we do know some things about it at this particular point in time. As Ford Authority previously reported, the muscle truck will aesthetically carve out its own path within the Raptor lineup, as it will boast a unique grille, gloss black wheels with beadlock capability, a more robust rear suspension, and other features that have not yet been revealed to us, likely related to the interior. Regardless, we do know that Ford Performance wants to absolutely take down the aforementioned TRX, so expect it to razzle and dazzle once it does materialize into the public eye.
