Ford certified pre-owned sales have surged over the past several months largely due to the pandemic, supply chain issues, and the resulting surge in both new and used vehicle prices, coupled with plunging inventory levels. However, Ford also gave its CPO program a big boost with the introduction of Blue Advantage last year as an all-new used vehicle sales platform designed to help dealers better compete against rivals like CarMax and GM’s newly launched CarBravo by offering many of the same benefits, including a 14-day, 1,000-mile money-back guarantee, as Ford Authority reported last week. As it turns out, these efforts are paying off big time thus far.
Ford certified pre-owned sales increased 26 percent in 2021 over 2020, while web traffic visiting its Blue Advantage site is up 500 percent over the automaker’s old CPO site. On top of that, the new money-back guarantee hasn’t even started yet, as it’s slated to begin on February 1st, 2022. Currently, the program offers a four-day, 200-mile return policy, but CarMax provides a more generous 30-day grace period that likely played a role in this change.
“The Ford Blue Advantage platform provides the opportunity to build long-term relationships with our customers by offering the peace of mind of a certified used vehicle, a comprehensive warranty, and the power of FordPass Rewards points – Ford’s industry-leading loyalty program,” said Andrew Frick, Ford vice president of sales, U.S. and Canada.
All Ford Blue Advantage vehicles include additional warranty coverage backed by Ford Motor Company. Gold Certified vehicles are subjected to a 172-point inspection and come with a 12-month/12,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty and a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. Meanwhile, Blue Certified vehicles must pass a 139-point inspection and come with 90-day/4,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty coverage.
Both Blue and Gold-certified vehicles come with 24/7 roadside assistance and complimentary FordPass Rewards points that customers can use for future service visits or vehicle purchases at dealerships – 11,000 points for Blue Certified vehicles and 22,000 for Gold Certified.
