Ford Motor Company has filed to trademark Trekker with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Ford Authority has learned.
Filed on December 29th, 2021, and assigned serial number 42021530470, the application contains the international classification of goods and services description of “Motor vehicles, namely, automobiles, pick-up trucks, vans, and sport-utility vehicles.”
The Ford Authority Take
This trademark filing follows a similar filing for “Tremor” in New Zealand and the Philippines, as well as “Ranger Tremor” in Australia, signaling that the Ford Ranger Tremor is likely headed to those countries. Much like the Tremor, the Trekker name was previously used in the Philippines on an off-road-oriented version of the last-generation 2006-2011 Ranger, too.
The Ranger Trekker was offered in two-wheel drive configuration, however – not four-wheel drive, as is the case with almost every modern vehicle of this type. That pickup did feature a host of off-road-focused equipment, however, including higher ground clearance, large fender flares, 16-inch alloy wheels, and beefier tires. The Ranger Trekker was powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder diesel engine, which produced 143 horsepower and 330 nM (243 pound-feet) of torque.
The Ranger Trekker was revived again in 2014 in the Philipines as a limited-edition model with just 225 units planned for production, and like its predecessor, offered a few upgrades including a bedliner, hard tonneau cover, Trekker decals, a chrome sports bar, and side steps, though color options were limited to Arctic Blue or Arctic White.
On the heels of the all-new international market Ranger’s reveal, it’s possible, given the incredible popularity of all off-road-oriented vehicles these days, that Ford plans to revive the Ranger Trekker in the Philipines, perhaps as a less hardcore alternative to the Tremor and Ranger Raptor for those that want a rugged-looking pickup, but don’t necessarily plan to subject it to anything but light trails or simply paved surfaces.
