2022 Ford Maverick Uses Dana Driveline Components

As of now, we know virtually everything there is to know about the 2022 Ford Maverick, the automaker’s first compact pickup since the last-gen Ford Ranger was discontinued over a decade ago. However, Ford has been a bit mum on some of the finer details regarding the Maverick, including its driveline components. Now, Dana has announced that it is the source of some of those critical pieces, which isn’t terribly surprising given the long relationship these two companies have enjoyed, dating all the way back to the Model T.

2022 Ford Maverick all-wheel drive models utilize Dana’s Spicer AdvanTEK Ultra axle with Spicer SmartConnect disconnecting all-wheel-drive (AWD) technology, which was tweaked to work in the front-wheel drive-based pickup. The innovative new axle was designed to use an ultra-low viscosity lubricant to reduce energy losses due to oil churning, and can rapidly engage all-wheel drive when it’s needed, such as during rapid acceleration or low-traction conditions, then disengage to improve fuel economy when it’s not needed.

A number of other Blue Oval models that ride on the Ford C2 platform already utilize these components, including the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair, as well as the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus, which ride on the Ford CD4 platform. Meanwhile, the sixth-generation Ford Bronco is equipped with Dana 35 AdvanTEK and Dana 44 AdvanTEK axles, as well as optional Spicer PerformaTraK electronic locking differentials. The Ford Bronco Raptor takes things up a notch with Dana 44 AdvanTEK M210 and Dana 50 heavy-duty AdvanTEK M235 front and rear axles.

While Ford utilizes a number of Dana components in a variety of its vehicles, it’s worth pointing out that the automaker is seemingly bringing its hybrid driveline tech in-house, as is the case with the Maverick Hybrid, which is only currently available in front-wheel drive configuration. The Maverick Hybrid utilizes the first electric motor developed and built by Ford in-house, which could be a sign of things to come.

  1. I like others am disappointed with Fords customer service in not keeping us informed of Maverick’s production schedule. Ordered and confirmed on Oct, 1st 2021 and advised by the dealer it would be 6 months. 6 months are coming up on March 1st. I have yet to hear from Ford as to production date. Dealer unable to help. Please advise when orders will be filled based on order date.

  6. Ford missed the bed width by only 1/2”! There are a lot of materials that come 49” wide and will not fit in this truck! I hope Ford will address this in the next model year….

  7. Subject: Dana. Colorado& Canyon use Dana M320 diff. I bought a new Canyon, and looking for info on recommended diff fluid changes: I was told NONE. Being a Proving grounds Special tests guy, I started digging for info. My daughter’s Tahoe rear diff bearings were howling at 75000….. and had to be replaced, so Don’t Tell Me that you don’t need to change break-in fluid out!! *** To make matters WORSE, I opened my M320, and fluid drained into a clear glass bowl ( try it)… Looked like a dark grey Slurpy…!!!! Unbelievable…!!!
Sump in bottom of cast had a bunch of iron junk sitting. Magnets retreived it easily. See my point????
Close internal investigation exposed some pathetic production machining of iron case! I had to deburr the interior of case, clean out the orig trash, and brake wash interior !! Over next 15,000mi. I drained warm fluid, and it kept getting more clear. Success. I lost all confidence in truck for many other reasons. No more new trucks from BigThree for me. American consumers are being fed a bunch of BS. Just like on social media…
Hold on to your WALLET….. they want your money, AFTER THE SALE!!
BOY HAVE PRICE OF PARTS GONE UP THROUGH THE ROOF!!!
THANKS BIDEN. This Inflation all seems planned…. Look who benefits!
